Artist Standout

Every week I see new and upcoming artists enter the market. I have opened up the Artist Standout nominations to you, the artist, and I have seen some very amazing photographers whom I already follow and found some new artist to follow myself! Every Thursday, there will be four Artist Standouts recognized from fellow artists. To be an Artist Standout means the artists shown are active in their business, they are pushing industry trends, and are capturing true emotion in their photography. Nominations are open weekly and can be found at the top of the blog. If you see an artist, that you feel is worthy of being an Artist Standout, feel free to nominate them.

When did you get your start in the industry?

My initial start with photography was when I bought what I thought was an expensive $200 point and shoot camera. I would drive somewhere in Tennessee I had never been to before and take landscape photographs. A few months later a close friend asked if I would photograph her daughter’s twelve month photos, and accepted the offer after some encouragement. Eight years later I thankfully am still being asked to photograph people and their life moments!

What do you enjoy most about photograph?

The opportunity to create simply stated but wholeheartedly felt. All sessions and weddings start with a general idea that later become a gorgeous celebration of style, chance, and of course the giving of mother nature for the location.

Michelle Gardella’s emotional perspective on photography is unreal with honesty, Jose Villa’s images are everything simple elegance was meant to convey, and Ben Sasso’s community not competition message he shares and spreads is something we should all practice!

And if you weren’t doing photography right now, what else would you want to be doing?
In all honesty there is no telling. I was never good at working for corporations and usually had one job a year before I went full time with photography. My last job was scheduling neurosurgery patient appointments. I was caught editing at work so often that I was asked by my boss what I wished to do with my life; which I replied “Take photos and travel”…..she then gave me my wish and with hard work, dedication and passion here I am-travelling & taking photos.

When did you get your start in the industry?

I found my love for photography in the high school yearbook class a million years ago and it has never left me.  I created a Facebook page for it at the end of 2013, with some encouragement and strong persuasion from a dear friend who works alongside me now as an assistant/cheerleader.

What do you enjoy most about photography?
I have always been a creative person and photography gives me that creative outlet that I crave.  It feeds my creative soul.  I love to document my life and the life of my family, but I also enjoy coming up with imaginative concepts and using wardrobe, with locations, to bring my visions to life.  My work involves both of these things and I love them equally.

Who is someone who has inspired you in your business?
I took Candice at The Blissful Maven’s class this past winter and that whole group of artists have really been an inspiration in my journey.  I have really learned to shoot from the heart and to focus on creating more for myself.  I’ve also been making new friends in the community lately and all of these women are incredibly supportive and that alone is an inspiration to me.

And if you weren’t doing photography right now, what else would you want to be doing?
Right now I’m a full time accountant, but to be a full time photographer would be the ultimate goal.  I also think that graphic design would have been a good career choice for me.

Headshot (3)I’m Angee and I’m a full time career mom to a 10-year-old boy, a couple of furbabies, and a flock of chickens.  We live on a farm in Central Missouri, with my soon-to-be husband.  In my free time I am a photography enthusiast with a love for all forms of memory keeping.  I’ve been an avid scrapbooker for 18 years and every year I create a slideshow set to music for the family to watch on Christmas.  It’s who I am and what I have always done.  The camera is an extension of me. When did you get your start in the industry?
I started photography up a little less than 3 years ago, shortly after my youngest was born, and I never looked back.

What do you enjoy most about photograph?
I love how photography has opened up a new world for me, everything is so much more beautiful through a lens.

Who is someone who has inspired you in your business?
I have had SO many people and artist inspire me, but honestly, my inspiration comes from my family.  Being with them everyday just inspires me to take out my camera and capture all of those innocent moments.  Also, my husband.  Not only is he ridiculously good looking (wink wink) he’s just the most supportive person, he’s adapted to the plus one camera, beautifully.

What is your favorite quote?
My favorite quote come from good ole Dr. Seuss.   “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.”
And if you weren’t doing photography right now, what else would you want to be doing?
If I wasn’t doing photography… I would be doing what I still do.  Keeping the fort down when the husband is working, playing dinosaurs with my 3 year old, running my 6 year old to track, attempting to cook dinner. I would be a stay at home mom, which is my favorite, and most exhausting thing to do.
IMG_4124-EditIMG_4194-2IMG_3086I’m 28 years young, a mother of 2 energetic and crazy boys, and a proud military spouse. We are currently stationed in central California, and I’m a firm believer that I was meant to be born and live here forever; it was love at first move.  I used to love to bake and cook, but then my 3 year old happened, so my love for that quickly died out. haha! We are an insanely active family, and love to go on hikes, and “adventures” as my kids would tell you.  I’m also a military brat. I was born overseas, then moved back to the states to good old North Dakota, where I happened to have met my husband, who is from Houston, Texas.  Oh, and don’t let me forget our most important family member, our little prince kitty.  We decided to name him, cat, I know I know, it’s awesome 🙂 Facebook | Website

When did you get your start in the industry?
My start in the industry began in 2011 and I say that loosely. I was living in Arizona with my 1 year old twins and  picked up my camera because I was inspired by a local photographer. Jessica Downey. She had soft, beautiful images and I desired to have the same of my own children. Instead of hiring someone I thought I could “just do it myself” and boy, I was wrong. There were many many horrible things done with my camera. I officially started my business in 2012, in the Sacramento area, and was surprised by how busy I became and how much I was learning as I shot more. It has been a learning experience every year and I have loved watching this baby grow and expand. Now in Michigan, I have found my own challenges working indoors most of the year and starting the business over in a new part of the country. We have had some wonderful growing pains and I am always excited to see new things flourishing.

What do you enjoy most about photograph?
I enjoy photography for many reasons. It is an outlet for me, my own little love aside from my family. I am drawn to capturing candid moments. I love the thought that the pieces  of what I am doing are part of someone’s history and my own.

Who is someone who has inspired you in your business?
I am inspired by so many people in this industry. My tastes change often but right now I am slightly obsessed with Lamb Loves Fox and the details of childhood captured. I have had the pleasure of mentoring under Winnie Bruce Photography and she has taught me and inspired me more than I could ever say. I am really inspired by photographers that love to share their knowledge and success.  As cliche as it is my children push me and are the heartbeat of my business. They are my daily inspiration.  Trust me when I say there are so many times I have felt uninspired or ready to call it quits and they do something as silly as smear jelly on their face and I am lit up again.

What is your favorite quote?
My goodness I have so many favorite quotes! The words that pierce my heart are always scripture. Lately my favorite is:
“Where you go I go, where you stay I stay.” Ruth 1:16

And if you weren’t doing photography right now, what else would you want to be doing?
If I wasn’t doing photography, I would probably just be at home with my kids and running this household. I can’t honestly imagine doing anything other than photography. When I was in High School I wanted to be a sports broadcaster because I loved the Oakland A’s so much. That didn’t pan out…
