Created by Melissa, of Melissa Hines Photography, Cities in Color was created to push each other creatively, through finding colors in our local cities. Each month Melissa picks her favorite 10 images, with the top three images including their stories. The community chose the color gray for the month of July. We are changing it up in August, and there is no longer a color restriction each month. We want you to be inspired by whatever colors you happen to find!
Melissa has chose her top images and they are as followed:
“We live in Calgary and we often take day trips out to Banff. My girls are now very familiar with Banff and what it has to offer particularly the Candy Stores. There is nothing like creating a happy childhood memory for your children that they will carry with them always! Who knows, maybe this one will pass down to their own children!”

“I’m so thrilled to have my image included! I took this image on memorial day.. this wall is one of many dedicated to our veterans! My son was so excited while passing this spot! He sweetly said ‘someday when I’m a man, I’m going to be one of the good guys’ ….”
“I love noticing little details and textures – give me a door with peeling paint or a mossy wall any day, and I’ll be happy. A place called Dungeness in South East of England is paradise for me, because it’s full of those things – old abandoned boats, pieces of wood, forgotten fishermen’s paraphernalia. I love walking the shingled beach, windswept, and just looking around and capturing those little details. These pictures are just for me, and they make my soul sing.”
