What is your story as a couple?
Cody & I met in 2009 at Century College. We were both in the Marketing program, which was a small program, so we had quite a few classes together. We became friends but once we graduated lost touch. We ended up reconnecting a friendship via facebook. Cody was renting the upstairs of his house & I was looking for a place, so moved in. Immediately Cody knew he wanted a relationship, but it took some convincing on my part. After a few dates we knew it was just right. We got engaged on the dock at my family cabin, during a family reunion. Cody had planned it and I had no idea; it was just us two out there so it was perfect & than I was able to tell all my family right away.
What made you chose your venue?
We found a few venues on the knot.com and MEC is the first one we saw out of all our appointments. As soon as we visited it we knew right away it was perfect & cancelled seeing all the other appointments. They weren’t fully done with the remodel but we loved everything about it. The original beams of the building with the more modern updates it had a lot of personality & didn’t need us to do much – which was perfect.
What inspired your wedding day attire?
I really had no idea what I wanted in a dress. The Wedding Shoppe was great. I came with a ton of pictures. The Shoppe pulled similar dresses & they were horrible on me but slowly we came to what I liked/didn’t like and as soon as I put on my dress I knew it was the one.
Cody was a lot easier – I found a style tux online he went tried it on, liked what I chose & he was set!
What inspired your wedding decor? Why did you choose the things that you did?
After we saw The Great Gatsby movie we really liked the whole atmosphere & theme of the parties in the movie so that is what we wanted for our wedding. I had already had the typical wedding Pinterest board so we found most ideas from that. We wanted it to be really simple yet elegant. I really don’t like over the top so wanted it to be pretty without being too overwhelming.
What was your favorite part of the day?
My favorite part of the day was just being able to celebrate with friends and family. We had been waiting for the day for so long but it really went by quickly! Almost seems like a blur.
Do you have advice for engaged couples still in the planning process?
Try to stay calm! We planned for about 10 months in advanced so we did a little bit at a time which helped. Towards the date of the wedding, it gets to be crunch time & it’s easy to stress but not worth it! It’ll all come together!
What DIY projects did you do, to help create your wedding decor?
We didn’t have a lot of DIY. The chalkboards & frames we got from home goods & my father in law spray painted them all gold for us. My sister did all the chalkboard writing. Her, my mom and cousin did the table numbers out of fabric.
