The Narrative Society: Educator Interview with Chelsea Cronkrite
Most artists have a point in their life where they knew this was meant for them. Do you have that moment?
I’m not sure, I’ve always had a deep interest in any kind of art, music, architecture and World around me!
Documenting our children’s lives is so important. What is your secret to not getting bored with your daily life?
I love watching my kids, they’re always changing – always growing! I really love sitting in the quiet and observing the genuine moments happening in front of me and try to learn to take in and treasure all the little things fully.
If there was only one moment you could photograph for the rest of your days, what would it be?
Sitting in front of a window. It’s my favorite place, always has been – always will be.
Personally I find more inspiration from things outside of photography. Where do you find inspiration most?
Outside of photography and my kids, I find inspiration in the weather most. It is another always changing and always so beautiful thing in life. And good to watch from the window too! ^^^
We all go through periods of mental blocks. How do you push past times of not finding inspiration?
I push past mental blocks by getting outside, I love being outdoors with my family or by myself and walk around and discover what’s around us.
Who in your life inspires your art the most?
My daughters inspire me most. My girls always find a way to keep things upbeat and surprisingly chaotic but in the best way possible!
What inspires you more - light or movement?
I think light inspires me most – though movement does a lot for me in some of my images, I think light is the most determining factor for me when creating an image or finding a special place!
Documentary and lifestyle photography are different to some. How would you define them?
In my opinion..
– Documentary photography is trying to remember a certain time, a certain place, and moment for a particular reason whether it is premeditated or not, in my opinion it is still the process of documenting these things which creates a documentary photograph.
– Lifestyle photography is when you are trying to accomplish a certain image with posing, outfits, location and sometimes even lighting just to achieve a certain style of image. Lifestyle images are always premeditated.
Would you rather continue with your life or restart it?
I would totally rather just continuing my life. The last time I thought of a restart I was probably 15!! I love my kids, my home, and my life – wouldn’t change it a bit!
Would you rather reverse one decision you make every day or be able to stop time for 10 seconds every day?
I would love to be able to stop time for 10 seconds every day, I have always thought the idea of stopping time would be more than fun! I am a natural prankster!
Would you rather never be able to speak again or always have to say everything that is on your mind?
I think I already do a pretty darn good job of saying what’s always on my mind, but just in case I don’t – I choose that option. Always speaking what’s on my mind.
Would you rather have no internet or no cell phone?
NO INTERNET. I have always been ok without it. No cell phone would be hard!
Would you rather lose the ability to use GPS for the rest of your life or lose the ability to use a debit or credit card?
I currently function on an all cash basis. I know it sounds crazy but unless I have it in my hands, it’s hard for me to grasp. I would totally be ok without the use of debit and credit cards!
Would you rather have eyes that can film everything or ears that can record everything?
This is a hard one for me, I think eyes that can film everything.
Would you rather have unlimited storage space on your iPhone or unlimited storage space in real-life?
I would say unlimited space in real life!! LOL!! I am a collector of way too many things!!
Would you rather walk the Great Wall of China or Amazon River?
I’d totally rather walk the Great Wall! My mother took a trip there when I was a small girl, she brought back images from her journey and I have always wanted to go!
Would you rather win an Academy Award or an Olympic Gold Medal?
I would love to win an Academy Award, it probably doesn’t come with as much fame and glory but to be known for something artistic.
Would you rather be fabulously famous and poor or unknown and rich?
Unknown and rich. Rich in life and love and adventure. <3
