Robin Long Photography
Welcome Robin!! Please tell the readers a little bit about yourself, and your business.
Hello! I specialize in maternity and newborns with my studio based in Salem, Oregon. I’ve been in business for 8 years now and have loved every minute of my journey! I feel like I have the best job in the world and my passion never ends! Every day I get to wake up to my constantly creative brain that just never seems to stop. I love meeting new people, new friendships, and embracing life. Business isn’t always rainbows and butterflies, there are things you wish you didn’t have to do and some you wish you could do more of, but I have no complaints and look forward to each new day and snuggling with sweet little newborns!
Tell us more about why you decided to specialize in babies.
Passion. I’ve always loved kids and babies, ever since I was a young girl. I loved babysitting and playing with little ones. I love their innocence and how the world is so fresh in their eyes. I think we all need a child’s view of the world sometimes.
The question every photographer wants to know, what is in your camera bag?
I have quite a few lenses, but only a couple I use in my newborn work, but I’ll list all of them!
Nikon D3S, NikonD700, 50mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.4, 105mm f/2.8, 24-70mm f/2.8, 70-200mm f/2.8, 135mm f/2.0, and the Lensbaby. I also have the xrite colorchecker passport, a lens pen, and a protein bar always in my bag!
If you could give one piece of advice to someone who wants to start working with newborns what would it be?
Be patient, not only with the baby, but yourself as well…. and practice as much as you can! I think we all are too hard on ourselves, me included. Embrace every moment you have to practice and learn.
Any big plans for the rest of this year, and 2014?
No big plans as far as my business goes for the rest of the year. I just released my newest book, “Natural Newborn Baby Photography” published by Peachipt. That took up a lot of my time this past year, but it was so rewarding. My workshops are complete for 2013, I have one mentoring session left and I’m currently working on my 2014 schedule soon to be released! I think it’s going to be an exciting year as I have great plans for the attendees next year!
